The NIA introduced the new-generation automated clearance system to the American delegation. This system integrates registration and clearance into one process and allows departing travelers who have their biometric data record upon arrival, and hold an electronic passport to use the e-Gate for exiting, providing a more convenient clearance service. Additionally, in 2016, Taiwan and the U.S. signed the "Joint Statement Regarding Cooperation between TECRO and AIT Toward Development of an International Expedited Traveler Initiative." Under this agreement, citizens of both countries can enjoy expedited clearance if they meet the application requirements and pass the interview process. Taiwanese citizens can benefit from the U.S. Global Entry program, while U.S. citizens can use the NIA's automated clearance system.
The NIA noted that Kaohsiung International Airport is a key border gateway in southern Taiwan. With increasing passenger volumes, the NIA will not only continue to enforce border security but will also strengthen communication with foreign consulates in Taiwan to provide convenient clearance, thereby enhancing Taiwan's international image.
