Former NBA superstar Dwight Howard received his Taiwan Employment Gold Card

Good news for Taiwan’s sports field! Former NBA superstar Dwight Howard, who recently announced his participation in The Asian Tournament (TAT) as a player for the TAIWAM MUSTANGS, received his Taiwan Employment Gold Card, for his outstanding performance in basketball. Howard has played many times in the NBA All-Star Games and on the 2008 Olympic gold-medal winning USA basketball team. This year, Howard returns to Taiwan to for the Asian Tour, which is an opportunity to make exchanges with local basketball players, and holding a Gold Card makes him much less worried about his working rights.To attract international talents and high-level professionals, the Employment Gold Card was launched on February 8, 2018, as a 4-in-1 legal document combining Taiwan’s work permit, residence visa, alien resident certificate and re-entry permit.
Howard appeared at the Taipei Service Center of the National Immigration Agency on July 29 to receive his Employment Gold Card. The crowds cheered for him out of joy that Howard was going to play in Taiwan again. Howard gladly took the Gold Card in his hands and said he was happy to rejoin Taiwan and carry on the games with Taiwanese players.
Mrs. Susan Su, director of the Taipei Service Station, said that the Employment Gold Card covers a wide range of professional fields, including technology, economy, education, culture and art, sports, finance, law, architecture design, national defense, digital development, and others. As of June 30th this year, a total number of 10,434 Cards were issued. Adding benefits to the Gold Card holders, for example, tax deduction and health insurance, Taiwan aims to become an ideal place for international talents to live.
What is better about the Employment Gold Card?
The Employment Gold Card allows Cardholders to freely start a job, be employed as part-time or full-time worker, or switch jobs any time. Compared with Alien Resident Certificate, holders of Gold Cards have 5 benefits:
1.An open work permit.
2.Under certain qualifications, cardholders whose income exceeding NT$3 million may apply for 50% tax deduction for the part exceeding NT$3 million.
3.Spouse and minor children of cardholders may apply for residence. Parents of cardholders may apply for 1-year visitor visa.
4.By staying in Taiwan for 3 consecutive years, with an average of more than 183 days per year, cardholders may apply for permanent residence. Deduct 1 year by obtaining a Taiwanese doctorate degree.
5.Cardholders and the depending family will be directly granted with the National Health Insurance, skipping the waiting period of 6 months.
