Although there are signs that the COVID-19 pandemic is abating, most global travel restrictions have yet to be lifted. In light of these conditions, foreigners whose Alien Resident Certificates (ARCs) are about to expire can apply for departure date extension for 30 days if they lack of other legitimate resident reasons and are unable to leave Taiwan as well. Before the extended period expires, they can re-apply for another extension for 30 days if they are still unable to leave.

Migrant workers without violation of law and whereabouts unknown whose ARCs expire on or after March 31, 2020, can apply for a special departure date extension for 30 days if they are unable to leave Taiwan due to flight bans. For more detailed information, please refer to the news information on June 19, 2020: https://www.immigration.gov.tw/5475/5478/141457/142068/230208/.

Those foreigners who overstayed their residency are not subject to the aforementioned special treatment.

The period of those implementing measures is subject to suspend as circumstances require.
