The National Immigration Agency (NIA) held the "Accompany Of Your Future – New Immigrants Dream Exchange Forum" on March 16 at the GIS MOTC Convention Center, 5th floor. Deputy Director-General Chieh-Cheng Chen stated that in response to the expansion of applicable subjects under the New Immigrant Basic Law, eligibility now extends beyond immigrants by marriage to include professional and skilled migrants. In the future, international and overseas Chinese students who choose to stay in Taiwan for employment, upon obtaining a work permit from the Ministry of Labor and updating their residency status with the NIA, will also qualify as new immigrants under the Basic Law. The NIA welcomes global professionals to settle in Taiwan, integrate into local life, and eventually apply for naturalization, fostering a harmonious society built on coexistence and shared prosperity. To support new immigrants, the NIA has established the IFI Network, a multilingual online platform providing comprehensive information on living, employment, education, healthcare, and other social benefits in Taiwan. The platform is available in seven languages (Chinese, English, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Khmer, and Burmese) and is complemented by an official LINE account for convenient access to government resources. To promote the IFI Network and strengthen awareness of Taiwan’s talent retention and recruitment policies, the forum invited representatives from the National Development Council, Workforce Development Agency under the Ministry of Labor, Overseas Community Affairs Council, and various overseas student organizations for a lively exchange of experiences. The event also featured an engaging traditional glove puppet theater performance, adapting the well-known story of Journey to the West with humorous twists to illustrate the eligibility criteria under the New Immigrant Basic Law. Interactive segments were incorporated to enhance audience participation. Additionally, new immigrant children showcased a vibrant street dance performance, adding to the event’s dynamic atmosphere. To highlight the collaboration between the public and private sectors in supporting new immigrants, government agencies such as the National Taxation Bureau of Taipei, Zhongzheng First Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department, and the Coast Guard Administration joined the event alongside new immigrant organizations to set up booths. Attendees participated in interactive games and received exclusive souvenirs. Through this event, the NIA hopes to inspire international and overseas Chinese students and new immigrants to leverage their talents, achieve personal growth, and contribute to Taiwan’s prosperity and development.
