Traveling Home or Abroad During the Dragon Boat Festival? Do Not Bring Meat Products into Taiwan and Help Prevent African Swine Fever

With the Dragon Boat Festival holiday approaching, many immigrant families and foreign residents may be planning trips home, overseas travel, or visits from relatives and friends to Taiwan. The public is reminded not to bring meat products into Taiwan in order to prevent the introduction of major animal diseases such as African swine fever and to help protect Taiwan’s agriculture and food safety.African Swine Fever (ASF) Situation
African swine fever has currently been reported in 74 countries and regions worldwide, including 18 countries and regions in Asia. According to statistics from the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency, numerous cases of travelers illegally bringing meat products into Taiwan have been detected since January 1, 2026, including sausages, jerky, pork sandwiches, hamburgers, and pork floss egg rolls.
Important Reminders for Entering Taiwan
• Meat-containing foods, meat products, and other animal products may not be brought into Taiwan without authorization.
• Unfinished in-flight meals containing meat may not be brought into Taiwan.
• If carrying related items, travelers should dispose of them in quarantine disposal bins before entry or proactively declare them to customs officials.
Penalties for Bringing Pork Products into Taiwan
• First violation: Fine of NT$200,000
• Second or subsequent violation: Fine of NT$1 million
Foreign nationals without residency status in Taiwan who are fined NT$200,000 and unable to pay immediately may also be denied entry into Taiwan.
Please Also Remind Friends and Relatives Overseas:
Do NOT send meat-containing food products to Taiwan via international mail or express delivery services.
If pork products are mailed from African swine fever-affected countries or regions to Taiwan:
• First offense: Recipient fined NT$200,000
• Second or subsequent offense: Recipient fined NT$1 million
