National Immigration Agency
Ministry of the Interior of Taiwan, ROC
No. 15 Guangjhon St., Jhongjheng District
Taipei City 100, Taiwan

Ladies and gentlemen:

The National Immigration Agency (NIA), whose mandates including border management, entry and exit control and immigrant counseling, was established on January 2, 2007. The NIA¡¦s work priorities cover areas including providing foreign and mainland spouses with care and counseling, preventing human trafficking, proposing tactics that attract professionals and investment immigrants, and devising the use of biometric technology for personal identification and an automatic immigration clearance system for speedy clearance. These missions are diverse and demanding, and their success or failure will have a far-reaching impact on Taiwan¡¦s immigration management, national security, and uplifted national image.

I, ever since assuming the responsibilities and position of the NIA Director-General, have felt as if walking along the brink of an abyss or on thin ice. From now on, I will certainly make every effort to fulfill my role well and constantly upgrade the care and counseling extended to new immigrants. Through a variety of activities, I am going to realize the ideal of respecting and caring for multiple cultures, and making new immigrants pleased to have Taiwan as their new and permanent home.

In the future, to advance a stable and open door policy remains one of the main tasks of the government. To protect the integral national interests, the NIA will continue to formulate responsive plans and implement related measures to effect major national policies and meet the expectations of the people. Also, under the principle of Taiwan First, Good for the Public, the NIA will cut back on the administrative procedures to make things easy for the public, provide the best service, protect the legal immigrants and clamp down on illegal ones. My NIA colleagues and I will work together to carry out the above-mentioned ideals. We will also work together to write a glorious page in Taiwan¡¦s immigration history with unreserved devotion and bold innovation.

In addition to introducing important laws and regulations, the NIA¡¦s website provides access to a variety of applications, the latest news, and service-related information. We hope that the prominent from all walks of life can generously provide us with their valuable opinions and advice and give us their continued concerns and support.

Sincerely yours,
Hsieh, Li-Kung
Director-General
National Immigration Agency
